Today is a good day to reach a wee bit past our comfort zone.
Peter Arnell, long time marketer for Pepsi and Samsung wrote in his book Shift, “Aging should not be equated with slowing down. It should motivate us to get going. Failure is not reaching for something and falling; it’s not reaching high enough and not falling at all.”
The guy knew what he was talking about and most certainly practiced what he preached. At one point in his life he was five feet, eight inches tall and weighed 406 pounds. What did he do? He got going. Today he weighs 150 pounds and learned that marketing is not just about products. It is also about self and there is no one still breathing who cannot remarket their individual brand.
One reason Christ was sent to humanity was to get us going. Isaiah chapter 9 tells us about all the things Christ would do. He would be for us wonderful, a counselor, a mighty God, an everlasting Father and a Prince of Peace. Could God have possibly sent a more empowering savior?
As we turn and return to Christ throughout our lives, we learn to refine and rebrand who we are. After all, repentance really means to change how we view all of life and this is rebranding ourselves in Christ likeness.
So many times in life I feel our Lord is vastly misrepresented. If we pay real attention to his words, we see that everything he said was empowering. He gave the woman at the well her life back. He raised Lazarus from the dead. He told Peter that upon him, he would build his church. He empowered women at every turn and one of his last acts was to empower his mother with perpetual care and family.
Today is a good day to get excited about Jesus. Today is a good day to grab hold of some faith and take that next leap of life. Today is a good day to realize that it is far worse to reach for the stars and hit the moon than to not try at all. If we are breathing then nothing is too late.
Jesus told us we’d do even greater things than he did. He knew that he’d always be present in our lives to empower us onward.
